As 2020 has rolled on, it’s safe to say most us have had to celebrate our birthdays in lockdown.
For those of us that cringe at the thought of celebrating, birthdays in lockdown sound pretty good. For anyone with kids, it’s a whole other story.
Children have a cute (yes, let’s go with cute) habit of planning their birthday parties for the 364 days leading up to it. It’s no surprise that many children were disappointed to hear that they couldn’t have all their friends over to celebrate.
After admitting defeat and giving up on booking a party at our local miniature railway for one of my kids and a museum party for the other, it was time to get creative.
Kmart saves the day (for way under $100!)
I’m no stranger to Kmart and lockdown has really been my time to shine with my Kmart online shopping game.
After a few nights of intense research on Kmart’s website, I orchestrated the next best thing.
My youngest loves to climb, jump, hop, skip and just be an all ’round, rough as guts, toddler.
With a rainy day forecast, we had to adapt and keep the party indoors, but here’s how I made the day special for Mr 2-year-old.
A pack of stepping stones, a set of balance buckets and an agility ladder made the perfect course for a “floor is lava” adventure.
I set up an old tee pee, much like this one, and threw in some Bluey soft toys.
Then, we had the parachute game.
To get some fresh air, I used a bubble machine in the garage, opened that roller door and let the kids run amok and ride their bikes in the drive way.
Shout out to Big W for the Wiggles birthday banner.
Was I hoping to celebrate his 2nd birthday at the miniature railway? Absolutely.
The pandemic has basically changed every plan we all had for 2020. Changing our party plans, though? Definitely nothing to lose sleep about. My kids had an incredibly adventurous day at home, playing and laughing.
Besides, I’m pretty sure Mr 2 is none the wiser that his party plans got changed up, anyway!
