Circus shows have come a long way from when we were kids.
They’ve got to captivate us without fancy tricks including elephants, tigers and lions. Twenty years ago I never would have imagined a circus existing without them, but somehow Silver’s Circus have pulled it off.
More specifically, they’ve pulled it off with Sesame Street Circus Spectacular.
Elmo and Silver’s acrobats are not a combination I ever expected to witness, yet there I was last week, soaking it up. And boy, was I impressed!
A multi-generational extravaganza
Sesame Street dates back to when my mum was 6-years-old and it is still thriving on our screens today. Being able to watch Bert and Ernie take the stage between performances was the perfect nostalgia we all needed.
The show had everyone’s eyes glued to the stage. When I say everyone, this includes my short-attention-spanned toddler, my very vocal baby, my husband and my in-laws. A show that entertains 1-year-olds through to 62-year-olds is a show I want more of.
The best of traditional circus shows
It’s no secret that we all love the thrill of watching acrobats do the most outrageous and completely horrifying stunts. Every mum in the circus tent sits on the edge of her seat, hoping for safe landings for the performers. We can’t help but imagine their poor mothers worrying about their dangerous careers.
Having said that, we absolutely loved the hula-hooping DJ that could dance laps around us all. Then the unicycle-guru had us all laughing with glee at his unreal balance and control over his wheel. The part that had us all holding our breath, though, well that came right at the end.
Four (yes, FOUR) motorbikes rode laps around each other in a caged sphere. This was the part that newborns screamed, toddlers cheered and every parent gobbled up their nails in fear.
A show not to be missed
Look, we’ve all been dragged along to play centres, Peppa Pig movies and bear-building experiences. We finally have an event that parents can actually settle in and enjoy as much as their kids do. Sesame Street Circus Spectacular is the perfect night out for the whole family.
Hey, it definitely beats sitting at home watching YouTube!
