The mum of a 15-year-old boy with Asperger’s has reached out to the internet to help her son break the world record for the most key rings.
Jacob will soon turn 16 and his mum, Lorraine, has taken to Facebook to ask for help with Jacob’s goal of breaking the world record for the most key rings.
Lorraine reached out to the Kids’ Party Rescue Facebook Group for help with reaching Jacob’s goal of breaking the world record of the most key rings. The group was created to help out children having trouble with the RSVPs for their birthday parties. A simple shout out brings the group to attention and kids that can attend, will come along and make memories with the birthday girl or boy.
This is my son Jacob. He has Aspergers. This is one of the only photos I have of him smiling. A very rare occasion. He is turning 16 this year in September. He is key ring obsessed and one day would like to break the world record for keyrings and key chains.
I know lots of amazing people from this group like to send cards to children, if anyone would like to send him a key ring from wherever you are he would be ever so grateful. I know it’s a few months away but I would like to surprise him with as many as I can.
A feat, but within reach
The current world record for the most key rings is held by a Spanish man, named Angel Alvarez Cornejo. Angel has a whopping 62,257 key rings!
With 57 key rings in his collection, Jacob set his sights on more.
He said jokingly few months ago, “I guess one day it would be cool to break the record I only need 62200 to go”
From little things, big things grow
Jacob began collecting key rings a few years ago, asking for one whenever his family went on vacation.
Jacob has liked key rings for a few years, every time a family member would go on holiday he asked for a key ring to be brought back.
I thought the 57 he had was a good lot, but learning they are a small number hearing how many other people have in their collections.
The power of the internet
As always, kindness prevails and countless strangers are sending key rings from all over the world.
These are the packages he has received so far. I have done an estimated count and we are at nearly 500 now.
Through the power of social media everyone wants to be part of it.
I honestly thought when I first put the post on my Facebook page, I thought he might get a couple from family and friends to help build his total just a bit.
I am honestly so overwhelmed with everyone’s amazing support.
I have been contacted from people all over the world wanting to help him reach his goal.
How can you help?
Despite receiving hundreds of key rings in the post, Jacob’s goal is still a ways away. We would all be lying if we said we didn’t have a neglected stash of key rings from our childhood, somewhere out of sight.
With 3 months until Jacob’s birthday, there’s still time to get key rings to him and make his birthday special!
