Naomi and Jeremy Hunter are on a mission to begin changing lives. Their tool? A children’s book – or maybe a dozen or so.
There’s no denying the children’s books are powerful in countless ways. To go as far as saying they are capable of changing lives is perfectly plausible, and in this case, spot on.
It all started with Naomi Hunter’s first children’s book, A Secret Safe to Tell. Her book opens discussions about body safety and the importance of telling safe adults if something not quite right is going on. This book has been changing lives since being published and is now being turned into a stage play!
“We became acutely aware of the importance of breaking the silence on tabooed topics to talk about with children and the power in providing them positive and appropriate information on how to keep themselves safe.” – Jeremy Hunter
A necessary journey
The couple were blown away by the positive responses from people all over the globe. This book put in motion a chain of events that led to the creation of their own publishing company, Empowering Resources.
“The global outpouring of heart-felt gratitude for this special and unique children’s book from adults was testament to the necessity for educationally rich resources for the well-being genre.” – Jeremy Hunter
“So, naturally, we bravely stepped into the challenge of becoming one of the first publishing companies to exclusively write for this niche, but imperative gap in the literary market.”
The list goes on
Empowering Resources is now responsible for a collection of books that tackle heavy topics.
“With our extensive range of books covering topics including anxiety, parent separation, grief, loss, friendship, sexual abuse, nightmares, domestic violence, cultural acceptance and diversity, parental mental health and wellbeing, moving away from grandparents, we have endless opportunities for educators to have meaningful and validating conversations with their students who may be experiencing the themes from any of our books.” – Jeremy Hunter
“Our books are beautifully written and illustrated by Australian authors and Illustrators and always have a gentle and important message to share that will impact the reader’s understanding and encourage meaningful discussions with their trusted adults, in the home and the classroom.”
Finding the right children’s book to encourage tricky conversations can be hard work. In this respect, Naomi and Jeremy Hunter are basically the heroes every parent has been waiting for.
