Mastering the monotonous (and grotty) job of cleaning bathrooms can take a few years to perfect.
It’s a chore that requires a heck of a lot of trial-and-error to figure out the best products and procedures. At the end of the day all we want is an easy, quick and clean way to get through cleaning bathrooms.
Sure, if we spent hours scrubbing the bathroom, it wouldn’t matter what products we are using. That bad boy would be spotless. Nobody has the time for that, though. If the bathroom requires more than 15-minutes, parents just don’t have the time to clean it regularly.
That doesn’t mean we want to skimp on the quality of the cleaning job at hand. Kids bring so many germs home from daycare and school, it’s tempting to just fumigate the entire house during those winter months.
After 7 years of trying to figure out the best way to survive the horrors that await me in my bathrooms, here are the only cleaning products you’ll ever need for perfect bathrooms.
#1: Toilet Cleaner
Find a toilet cleaner that boasts both a curved neck and an anti-bacterial formula. Squirt it around the top of your toilet bowl before you start cleaning. By the time you’re done cleaning the rest of the loo, it will have worked its magic. Flush and use your toilet brush for a sparkling bowl.
Partner this with a toilet brush that has a rim cleaner built in for a perfect clean.
You’ll need to pour a generous amount of this bad boy in 3 spots: bathroom sinks, your toilet and in the mop bucket. Using an antibacterial disinfectant will help kill germs, while getting rid of stains and grime.
Leave it sitting in your toilet and sinks while you clean the rest of the bathroom, giving it a chance to do its job.
#3: Disinfectant Wipes
These wipes are amazing and incredibly versatile. While I use them in the bathroom, I also use them in my kitchen, at restaurants and in baby change-rooms.
Use disinfectant wipes all over your toilet, sinks and counter tops in the bathroom. Any surface, really!
Just don’t flush them down the loo, unless you want to deal with a blockage!
#4 and #5: Glass Cleaner
Scrunchy paper does get a more streak-free finished product, though – if you’re a stickler for that kind of thing.
#6: Melamine Sponge
Also known as a magic eraser, the melamine sponge is both versatile and under-rated. I use this baby all around the house, but let’s focus on that one dreaded job: the showers.
Leave a piece of melamine sponge in your shower and use it every few days to scrub down the inside of the shower. Do this while you’re showering to save time and so that you don’t have that yucky post-cleaning filthy feeling.
The magic eraser can also be paired up with a bit of water to scrub urine-marks off the walls, for any boy-mums out there.
This product is awesome, as you don’t need any products with it. The sponge is a solo player in the game of bathroom cleaning. It’s also really cheap – you can pick it up for $2.80 at Daiso!
#7: Glen 20
There you have it! Cleaning bathrooms doesn’t need to be a massive job that leaves you gasping for air. You can get it done quickly, yet thoroughly, with these must-have products.
For help carting these around from bathroom to bathroom, grab yourself a cleaning caddy – trust me on that one!
