This week, we tried out the highly recommended Bilibo to see what all the fuss was about. This is what we thought.
At first glance, it looks a little like one of those shells you had to jump over on Super Mario, but in the eyes of a toddler, the possibilities can be endless!
The Therapy Store describes the Bilibo as:
The multi-award winning Bilibo is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and versatile open-ended toys. Deceptively simple and magically attractive, Bilibo’s iconic shell shape and bright colors immediately appeal to children. Bilibo arouses curiosity, engages the imagination and playfully trains basic motor skills and balance
Did it fit the hype?
My two toddlers (like most) are hard to entertain. And by “hard to entertain” I mean, they have the attention span of a goldfish. They constantly want something new to play with and discover!
When we first opened the box to the Bilibo, I half expected my kids to be more interested in the wrapping – like they usually are.
But, I was pleasantly surprised!
My kids, Aisha and Cruz were instantly excited about trying out their new toy in as many ways as possible. They pretended to be turtles, taking it in turns wearing the shell on their back.
They also had fun making a “Turtle Mask” and playing Peek-A-Boo through the holes.
The website claimed there would be “hours of fun”.
I don’t think that even a real life unicorn riding a rainbow would keep my children entertained for “hours”, but this came pretty close! I was impressed with the outcome.
Would I buy another one?
If they are within your budget, and you can afford to maybe buy a few, I think that they are a fun, super versatile toy.
It would have been great to have when my kids were younger – its versatile play options really open up a plethora of games and activities for all ages.
There are only so many kids cartoons you can watch in a day, so it’s nice to see them use their imagination and get creative!
